Hand
Torque Wrench Calibration
|
|
| |
|
|
|
RS
Technologies can provide the equipment needed to calibrate mechanical
torque wrenches, such as dial-type and click-type wrenches.
|
This
test procedure provides the steps necessary to check hand torque wrenches
and "click" type wrenches..

Test
Equipment
- Model
920 Portable Instrument: Calculates peak torque values for "click"
type wrenches and displays peak torque values for other types of hand
torque wrenches.
- Stationary
Torque Transducer: Measures the amount of torque that is applied
by the hand torque wrench.
- Transducer
Cable: Connects the torque transducer to the Model 920 instrument.
- Printer
(optional): Prints out data and statistics recorded by the Model
920.

Torque
Wrench Test Procedure
- Connect
the instrument to the torque transducer and power it up.
- Perform
a transducer calibration and clear the memory.
- Make sure
that the Measurement Mode of the instrument is set to read Peak torque.
Refer to the Model 920 instruction manual.
- Position
the drive of the wrench in the correct fitting on the torque transducer.
Allow enough room to pull the wrench to reach the desired torque.
- When checking
a "dial-type" wrench, simply pull the wrench in a slow steady
pull until the desired reading is reached. Compare that value to the
Peak Torque reading displayed on the Model 920. Typically 5- 10 tests
are required to satisfy the necessary sample size requirement for most
tool testing standards.
- Consult
the manufacturer's specifications and technical information to determine
if adjustments to the wrench are necessary to ensure accurate operation
and use.
- Print out
data and statistics as desired.
Click
Wrench Test Procedure
- Connect
the instrument to the torque transducer and power it up.
- Perform
a transducer calibration and clear the memory.
- Make sure
that the Measurement Mode of the instrument is set to read Click Torque.
Refer to the Model 920 instruction manual.
- Position
the drive of the wrench on the top fitting of the torque transducer.
Allow enough room to pull the wrench to reach the desired click point.
- Pull the
handle in a slow steady manner through the "click" point then
release the handle. The Model 920 will search through the recorded torque
to find the point at which the wrench "clicked" and then display
the corresponding value.
- Consult
the wrench manufacturer's specifications and technical information to
determine if adjustments to the wrench are necessary to ensure accurate
operation and use.
- Print out
data and statistics as desired.
